Innisfree’s ideas for making the most of your summer

  1. Treat yourself to some fresh lavender lemonade! Here’s a recipe we’ve used at family events: https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/lavender-lemonade
  2. Stop and smell the roses, er, fruit! See if there are local “pick your own” places where you can get fresh fruit. There’s nothing like fresh strawberries, blueberries, or peaches! We love making jams and sauces to make the fruit last all year long.
  3. Plan ahead to preserve those tomatoes! We’ve all experienced the “Uh oh what do I do with all these ‘maters” moment. One of our favorite things to do is to dehydrate our cherry tomatoes to get that great taste in the winter months. Here’s an easy way to do it:
Preheat oven to 200 F. If using a dehydrator, set temperature at 140 F.Slice tomatoes in half and place in bowl.
Add olive oil, salt and seasoning of choice.
Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and place the tomatoes cut side up onto the cookie sheet. …
    Bake anywhere from 4-8 hours.
Store in air-tight container in the fridge
  4. One of our favorite things to do is picnic at a park. Bring blankets, favorite foods and snacks, and plenty of water to enjoy a nice afternoon outside. Don’t forget the sunscreen and bug spray!
  5. Go to a baseball game. Nothing beats baseball in the summer. Even if you’re not a fan of the game, there are fun snacks and people watching involved!
  6. Blow bubbles with a friend! This one’s easy…who doesn’t like watching bubbles dance away in the wind.
  7. Tie dye! This is a great way to re-vamp old clothing. Shirts with stains? Boring dish towels? Yellowed socks? Make them like-new with a simple tie-dye kit from a craft store! Want to get super creative? Try dying with goldenrod or other natural dye plants.
